RAGE

In this one-to-one performance, audiences are invited to beat a sofa with a baseball bat, accompanied live by a piano quartet. It is a space where participants can explore, process, and let go of strong or repressed emotions through movement and guided by music.

The instrumentalists will guide this exploration of RAGE in performance and collaborate with the participant by responding to their reactions through a bespoke composition. The music will heighten these senses and finish by bringing the participant to a softer close. The aftermath aims to give participants a sense of release, calm and joy.

Access is creatively embedded into the piece through loudspeakers which will create the vibrations of the acoustic music being played. There will also be touch tours of the space, and after the performance, a reflection space will be available for the participants.

Funding From Offbeat will support the research and development process, which will focus on creating the music composition and the audience experience developing the safety and care elements of the performance.

This project explores cathartic rage, created and directed by Charneh Watson in collaboration with composer and musical director Taner Kemirtlek.
