Georgie Steele: And I'll Blow Your House Down

About the show

What if everything you expected from life, for yourself and for the people you love, suddenly had to change?

In 2009, my two sons were diagnosed with a terrible life-limiting, muscle-wasting condition. I felt like the Big Bad Wolf had blown our house down. How on earth was I going to start again, building a new life for us out of the rubble?

In ‘And I’ll Blow Your House Down’, I set my own real life story on a collision course with a traditional folk tale, alternating true-life vignettes with a robust and ridiculous telling of the Three Little Pigs.

How do you build a house that the Wolf can’t destroy?

OFS scratch audiences said: "Powerful", "Radical", "Beautiful" "Your instinct for playful moments is spot on".

About Georgie Steele

I’m a physical theatre performer and storyteller. After training for six years in corporeal mime, I worked nationally and internationally, including at The Pleasance London, in the Edinburgh Fringe, on British Council tours and in street theatre festivals.

I want to explode traditional oral storytelling out into the physical performance space, but to keep the special and living relationship with the audience that storytelling has.

I’m also a carer for my two teenage sons who have disabilities, and this is now central to my work as well as to my life. Processing my lived experiences as a carer, I’m transforming them into richly-told stories and legends, and opening them up to other people to reflect on. I work with other carers too, like in my project ‘Lockdown Cinderella’, funded by AOFS as part of Lights Up 2020.

What I want to know is, what would happen if we could leave our doors open and invite each other in? What if we could all share our stories? How would the world be different then?
